Wizards spam filter for Outlook
If your email arrives via the Wizards (Tidymail) servers, we will have scanned it. We will have deleteed anything we see with a virus in it, and we will have "Flagged" any mail we think is spam. With a "lite" account, you get our standard set of filters, and we flag anything which fails our tests. With a "full" account you can manage the filters or add your own, but the result is the same - any mail marked "WARN" by the filters will still be delivered to you but will be marked.
One option is to switch the account to "Block". In that case any suspect mail is deleted. But you will never have the opportunity to review the list of suspect items and save any which are not really spam - and it can happen.
So we recommend you leave the setting on Warn, and set up a filter in your mail program to automatically kick incoming items which are flagged as possible spam into a folder for later handling.
Here's how to set this up in Outlook 2003.
First, create your new folder (e.g "Wizards Spam Flag")
Go into Tools and Rules-and-Alerts.
Create a new Rule - Start from Blank Rule
Step 1 - Check messages when they arrive
Step 2 - Apply this rule after the message arrives
Next
Step 1 - in the top box, find and tick the entry which says "with Specific Words" in the message header. You'll see this fill itself in in the bottom box. In the bottom box, click on the blue words "Specific Words" and it'll ask you want actual words your'e checking for. Type in carefully
X-Spam-Warning
Click "add to list" - and finish. Your rule in the bottom box should now read "Apply this rule after the message arrives - with X-Spam-Warning in the message header.."
Next.
Tick the top option "Move it to a specified folder". This will add itself to the rule at the bottom. Click on the blue word "Specified" and in the pop up box choose the folder you created at the start.
That's it!
Click Next - you see here you can add subclauses to therule but you don't need to. The only "except" you might like to experiement with is "if the sender is in my address book". Click "Finish". You'll see the rule has been added to the rule list (probably as the only one if you'v enot used it before).
Now, whenever you Send And Receive, anything you get from us which we have flagged as probably spam, will be moved into the new folder. The folder entry will still show it has Unread Mail in it to remind you to check it for false positives then delete the contents - I suggest you do this once a week (unles you're expecting a mail and not seen it - then look for it in there!)
Good luck!
