Getting Connected
Connecting to the Wizards internet services.
Connecting to Broadband.
When we set up a broadband account for you, you will need to obtain a suitable ADSL modem or router and configure it to log in to this service. We can of course supply from a wide range of sutable devices, or you can use an existing device or one sourced elsewhere.
These days most routers are already configured with most settings already correct, but we'll give them here anyway. Usually you only have to put in your username and password.
ADSL settings. These will be on the "Wan", "ADSL", or "Broadband" menu of your router, or a Setup Wizard will prompt you for them.
- Mode - Routing
- Encapsulation - PPPoE
- Multiplexing - VC (Virtual Circuit) Based
- Virtual Circuit ID - VPI = 0
- Virtual Circuit ID - VCI = 38
- IP address - "Obtain Automatically" or "Server assigned".
- Username - your-user-name@interdsl.co.uk
- Password - your-password
- (We will have sent you the username and password information!)
DHCP and DNS settings.
In most situations you will set up your network so your computers and other devices get their network setup from the router. We can advise on any detail of your network configuration so please give us a call or email if you want to do something other than this.
To have this setting work correctly, you will probably need to configure the DNS server entries. Some routers will work with DNS entries set at 0.0.0.0 - e.g. Zyxel. Other routers MUST have specific DNS servers entered to work properly. Even with Zyxel you will probably get more reliable connections if you program specific DNS server data.
To do this, find the "DHCP Settings" - which may be on the "LAN" or "DHCP" menu, and put in the following DNS servers.
- First DNS server = 83.170.125.148
- Second DNS server = 83.170.101.148
If the router asks for a third or fourth entry, leave these at 0.0.0.0
Email client setup
If you don't have an email address, and want one, give us a call.
If you have a "web" based email address (e.g. gmail, googlemail, yahoo, hotmail) then you need do nothing extra.
If you have a regular email address and use a mail client on your computer (e.g. Outlook, Windows Live Mail, Pegasus, Mozilla Thunderbird) then your "inbound" settings should be unchanged. These will be
- Username = e.g. "myname" or "myname@mydomain.com"
- Password = mypassword
- Server = pop.domainhost.com e.g. pop.wizards.co.uk, pop.tidymail.co.uk
- Port = 110
Your outbound settings may have to change however.
If you want to send your outbound mail using OUR servers, you will need to enable authentication. And if your mail account is not on our server, you will need to ask us for an Auth-Only account to use.
If you want to send your outbound mail using someone else's servers, please contact their support service to find out what may be required.
To authenticate outbound email on our servers
- Servername = post.tidymail.co.uk
- Username = yourname@yourdomain.com (Must be a domain on our system!) or
- Username = yourname@auth.scootmail.com (An Auth-only account we have set up for you)
- Password = yourpassword
- Port = 25 or 587 (25 will normally work - try on 587 if 25 appears blocked)
We don't know every mail system available but we can help you with the specific details of most systems if you are still stuck - give us a call.
