Transfering your domain AWAY from Wizards
If you want to transfer your domain away from Wizards, that is your right - it's your domain!A word of Warning
First, please be aware that whoever you transfer your domain to has ultimate control over it. A UK domain remains your property and can't easily be changed, but your domain host can change the apparent ownership of a COM, NET, ORG, etc., domain at the drop of a hat. They can change where your website is, they can change where your email goes, everything. Please be sure before transferring your domain to another hosting company that they are reliable and trustworthy! And, of course, most of them are. But some companies specialise in one aspect of internet work (web site design, say) and may not be fully conversant with, for example, the finer points of email management. Please ask yourself "Do I really need to transfer the domain? Or do I just need to ask Wizards to make a change in the domain database, say, to move the website to another web server?"
If you really do need to transfer the entire domain, then please note that this is NOT reversible by Wizards - once out of our control, you would need the new hosts to transfer it back if you should change your mind.
The Procedure
Because of the dangers and because it is not something we can reverse without third party co-operation (e.g. getting the new hosts to hand it back!) we require written authorisation from you to proceed with a domain transfer. Please write a letter on your official letterhead indicating you wish us to release the domain, who to, and
1) for a UK domain, give us the Nominet "tag" of the new hosting company. We will transfer the domain control to this tag and then the rest of the process is up to the new host. We can no longer do anything with your domain after this point.
2) for a non-UK domain, e.g. .com, .org. .eu, tell us who will be importing the domain. We will unlock the domain to permit transfer, then we'll wait for a transfer-request email from the server requesting we transfer it, which we'll confirm, if that request matches the transferee you have advised us to listen for. Again, once this has been done, control is with the new host and we can no longer do anything at all with the domain.
Please also indicate on your letter if you wish to cease any other related services, e.g. web hosting, email service, or, if you wish, indicating which related services you wish to retain with us!
Send the letter to us at PO Box 255, Great Missenden, HP16 9SD or fax it to 01494 837013.
IMPORTANT NOTES
Again, for the avoidance of doubt, please be as specific as you can in your request. If you tell us you're cancelling your mail hosting we will delete your mailboxes, they can't be recovered, only re-created as new empty boxes, if you didn't mean it! If you want to keep your mail with us, make sure the new hosts realise this. Similarly, if you tell us you no longer require web hosting, we will delete your site, we don't keep backups. More-over, if you move your mail or web to a new host but don't ask us to cancel these services, not only may we continue billing you for them, but their continued existence could cause confusion, e.g. a mail to you from one of our other clients would end up in your old mailbox on our system even though your new hosts thing they've transferred your mail to their system. Likewise, any of our customers looking at your website would be looking at your old possibly out of date website on our servers, not your new one.If you are transferring the domain away from us, and you keeping any other service on our systems (e.g. your website? Your email?) it is up to you to ensure your new domain hosts understand this and make the appropriate entries in the domain zone file once they are in control of it. Wizards accept NO responsibility whatsoever for disruption to your domain caused after it leaves our control. We will always co-operate with your new hosts providing the necessary information.
IF YOU ARE IN ANY DOUBT AT ALL, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH US to discuss what it is you are trying to achieve, and we can advise on the best way to get there with minimum disruption to your domain, email, website, etc.
